Revive I-70 Construction Guide – Spring 2026

Revive I-70 is an Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT) project to improve I-70 in Wayne County from west of Cambridge City to the Ohio state line.

It’s the second year of construction along this 8-mile corridor. Pavement is being replaced and improvements are being made to 21 bridges, including widening the bridges. Crews are building an added travel lane in the existing median. When complete, this portion of I-70 will include three lanes in each direction.

Ramp Closures
Multiple, temporary ramp closures are expected this year to complete needed work in the area. Signed detours will be in place during all ramp closures.

Notices will be shared well in advance of closures as schedules are finalized.

Progress at the U.S. 40 Interchange
Drivers are already on new roadway as work continues to improve the U.S. 40 interchange. Significant improvements are planned at both the U.S. 40 and U.S. 35 interchanges. The existing partial cloverleaf interchanges are being replaced with diamond interchanges with roundabouts and the existing loop ramps are being removed. Reconstructed interchanges are expected to open to traffic in 2027.

Traffic Shift
By the end of this year, there will be a traffic shift along this portion of the corridor. Both lanes of eastbound I-70 traffic will shift to the new travel lane roadway in a temporary configuration.

Shifting traffic will accommodate construction and give crews more room to work and build the new lanes of I-70 while maintaining two lanes of traffic in each direction. Lane and shoulder widths will be reduced within the work zone.

Mainline I-70
Crews are working on the eastbound lanes of I-70 this year. Westbound traffic is pushing to the outside to accommodate one lane of eastbound traffic on the westbound roadway.

Crews are working from the outside to the inside on eastbound lanes. This summer, traffic will shift again with the drivers using the eastbound lane moving to new pavement. That will allow crews to work on the inside lane. All eastbound work is expected to be complete by the end of the year.

Ramp Closure
A temporary ramp closure is expected this year. State Road 1 eastbound ramps to and from I-70 are expected to close in late spring and reopen this summer. Crews are rehabilitating the pavement on the ramps.
