Maintenance of Traffic (MOT)

Contract 1

Contract 1 includes the eastern portion of the project area and extends from west of U.S. 35 to the Ohio state line.

Improvements Include:

INDOT awarded the nearly $362.5 million contract to the Walsh Group, Crider & Crider, Rieth-Riley joint venture in summer 2024. Pavement patching extended from west of Centerville to U.S. 35 and was completed in December 2024. Contract 1 construction started in spring 2025.

Added Travel Lanes

I-70 is currently four lanes, two in each direction. A third lane will be added in each direction from west of U.S. 35 to the Ohio state line.

Widening work will happen inside existing lanes utilizing the grass median.

Interchange Improvements:

Significant changes to the U.S. 35 and U.S. 40 interchanges will improve safety and mobility.

Bridge Improvements:

The 21 bridges in the Contract 1 area will see improvements and widening, including complete replacements, deck replacements, deck overlays and painting.

Contract 2

Contract 2 includes the western portion of the project area and extends from west of State Road 1 to west of Centerville.

Improvements Include:

Bids from interested contractor teams are expected in spring 2025. Construction is expected to start in fall 2025.

Bridge Improvements:

Improvements are expected for the 13 bridges in the Contract 2 area, including bridge deck rehabilitations.

Additional bridge improvements for the Contract 2 area will include deck replacements, deck overlays, and painting.

Contract 3

Contract 3 includes the central portion of the project area and extends from west of Centerville to U.S. 35.

Specific improvements are being developed. Bids from interested contractor teams are expected in 2027.
