Overnight lane restrictions planned on I-70 for shoulder work and pavement patching

Restrictions include overnight ramp closures at U.S. 35 and U.S. 27

Shoulder strengthening, pavement patching, removing guardrail, and mobilizing equipment are some of the activities planned on the Revive I-70 corridor in Wayne County this week.

Overnight pavement patching operations have been extensive and are continuing. When complete, crews will have applied nearly 2,500 tons of temporary patching to help improve pavement conditions for drivers.

Here’s what to expect this week:

  • Overnight Monday, March 31 through Saturday, April 5
    • Patching work with short-term, mobile lane closures on eastbound I-70 from U.S. 27 to the Ohio state line
    • Single lane closed on eastbound I-70 from Round Barn Road to U.S. 27
    • The following ramps could be impacted by overnight closures, as work dictates:
      • Ramps to and from eastbound I-70 to U.S. 35 and U.S. 27
    • Single lane closed on westbound I-70 from U.S. 27 to west of U.S. 35

All overnight, weekday closures are scheduled from 8 p.m. to 7 a.m.

Traffic Shifts
A minor traffic shift on eastbound I-70 from Round Barn Road to just east of U.S. 27 is expected to be completed this week. Traffic has already shifted on westbound I-70 from U.S. 27 to west of U.S. 35.

Shifting traffic to the outside allows crews additional room to work and build the new, inside lanes of I-70. Lane and shoulder widths will be reduced within the work zone.

Anticipated schedules are subject to change based on weather and other factors.

Equipment Being Mobilized
Drivers are expected to see a large crane erected this week in the median of I-70 west of U.S. 35. The crane will be in place for several months as bridge work is completed in the area and will move east down the corridor as work progresses. Bridge demolition work is scheduled to begin this week in the same area.

Construction Speed Limit Now Active
The construction zone speed limit is now active on I-70. A reduced speed of 55 mph is in place for the duration of Revive I-70 work. It is important for drivers to slow down and avoid distractions in work zones.
