One lane of I-70 to be closed two weeks in November and two weeks in December
Asphalt pavement patching is scheduled to begin this Friday on westbound I-70 in Wayne County. Short-term rolling closures will be needed overnight Thursday for pavement striping work in advance of the patching. The 3.5-mile corridor extends from west of Centerville to US 35. Two weeks of single-lane restrictions are planned on westbound I-70. Two weeks of single-lane restrictions will follow in December on eastbound I-70 to accommodate the work.
Work is expected to happen on or after the following dates:
- Thursday, Nov. 7 (Overnight 9 p.m. – 6 a.m.): Short-term, single lane rolling closures on westbound I-70
- Friday, Nov. 8 – Friday, Nov. 15: Left lane of westbound I-70 expected to be closed
- Friday, Nov. 15 – Friday, Nov. 22: Right lane of westbound I-70 expected to be closed
- Friday, Dec. 6 – Friday, Dec. 13: Left lane of eastbound I-70 expected to be closed
- Friday, Dec. 13 – Friday, Dec. 20: Right lane of eastbound I-70 expected to be closed
Lane closures are scheduled to begin around 9 p.m. each Friday and end by noon the following Friday. No work is scheduled the week of November 25 with all lanes open to help prevent delays for Thanksgiving travelers. Pavement patching is expected to be complete by Friday, December 20, with all lanes back open to traffic.
Significant delays are anticipated during while work is in progress, and drivers are reminded to plan ahead and avoid distractions in the work zone. The lane restrictions will allow the work to be completed faster, preventing prolonged work and extended delays.
Additional Overnight Work Scheduled for Next Week
Crews will also be continuing soil boring work overnight next week in preparation for construction activities beginning early next year on I-70 from west of US 35 to the Ohio state line.
Work is anticipated overnight Monday, Nov. 11 – Thursday, Nov. 14. The work is expected to begin in the eastbound lanes of I-70 and move to the westbound lanes. Overnight lane restrictions will move as operations progress and will only affect limited areas at a time. Drivers should watch for signage as work advances to multiple locations along the interstate.
Anticipated schedules are subject to change based on weather and other factors.
