Revive Report – April 2025

Welcome to Revive Report, a quarterly newsletter to provide updates on the Revive I-70 project in Wayne County.
Revive I-70 is an Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT) project to improve I-70 from west of Cambridge City to the Indiana/Ohio state line.

Because of the size of the corridor and scope of improvements, Revive I-70 is divided into three contracts for improved project delivery.

Contract 1 is the eastern portion of the project area and extends from west of U.S. 35 to the Ohio state line and includes added travel lanes, pavement replacement, interchange modifications and bridge improvements. Construction started early this year.

Contract 2 is the western portion of the project area and extends from west of S.R. 1 to west of Centerville and includes pavement rehabilitation and bridge improvements. Construction is expected to begin late this year.

Contract 3 is the central portion of the project area and extends from west of Centerville to U.S. 35. Specific improvements are still being developed. Bids from contractors are expected in 2027.

Construction is beginning along the corridor, and drivers are seeing activity from west of U.S. 35 to the Ohio state line. Crews are strengthening the shoulder and adding new asphalt to accommodate traffic during construction. Crews have also installed new guardrail and mobilized equipment for bridge work in the median. The new travel lanes are being built utilizing the inside median.

Extensive pavement patching operations are ongoing to improve current conditions until replacement occurs as part of the project.

A long-term ramp closure is scheduled to begin next week. The ramp from southbound U.S. 35 to eastbound I-70 is expected to close on or after Monday, April 21, and remain closed through summer 2026. With construction underway and traffic shifted to narrower lanes, closing the ramp will provide safer conditions for both crews and motorists. A signed detour will be in place.

Necessary traffic restrictions associated with Revive I-70 improvements will cause delays on I-70. Drivers should plan ahead and use alternate routes when possible.

The speed limit has been reduced to 55 mph along the Revive I-70 construction zone. It’s important for drivers to slow down and avoid distractions in work zones.

Contract 2 work is expected to begin late this year. A team comprised of Milestone Contractors, L.P. and E&B Paving will complete Contract 2 work.

Improvements are expected for 13 bridges in the Contract 2 area, including bridge deck rehabilitations. Additional bridge improvements will include deck replacements, deck overlays, and painting.

I-70 is expected to remain open to traffic during construction, with two lanes open in each direction during peak travel times. Short-term closures will occur as necessary. Access for all residences and businesses will be maintained.
