It’s the second year of construction and significant progress has been made along the I-70 corridor. From west of U.S. 35 to the Ohio state line, capacity is being added, pavement is being replaced, and bridges improved. When complete, I-70 will be six lanes (three in each direction) along this area of the corridor. Improvements are also underway at the U.S. 35 and U.S. 40 interchanges.
The U.S. 27 ramps to and from eastbound I-70 reopened in late July. These ramps were closed in April for rehabilitation, which included extensive work to patch the concrete, connect the ramps to I-70, and improve acceleration and deceleration lanes. The S.R. 1 ramps to and from eastbound I-70 recently reopened. They closed in late May to be rehabilitated and reconstructed. Drainage work and resurfacing were also completed.

Pavement rehabilitation and bridge improvements are underway from west of S.R. 1 to west of Centerville. The Washington Road bridge reopened to traffic in late July. It was closed to rehabilitate the bridge’s surface and structure.
There are several upcoming changes to traffic patterns along the I-70 corridor in the next few months. Make sure to pay attention to posted signage.

Improvements include removing the loop ramps, constructing roundabouts, and eliminating weaving movements from the entrance and exit ramps.

This helps to increase the longevity of temporary pavement in place and to reduce the impact of heavy loads, especially on reduced shoulders on bridges. Drivers should slow down in construction zones, and trucks need to use designated lanes.
