We’re entering the second year of construction, and a lot of progress has been made from west of U.S. 35 to the Ohio state line.

Bridge work and other progress this winter are setting the stage for more construction activity this spring and summer. Bridge improvements include complete replacements, deck overlays and painting. Bridges are being widened to accommodate an additional travel lane in each direction.
Construction started last year from west of State Road 1 to west of Centerville. Work beginning this spring along the 9-mile corridor will include pavement rehabilitation and improvements to 13 bridges.
Improvements are still being identified for the central portion of the project area, from west of Centerville to U.S. 35. The contract is expected to be awarded in 2027.

Progress at the U.S. 40 Interchange
Drivers are already using some new roadway as work continues to improve the U.S. 40 interchange. Significant improvements are planned at both the U.S. 40 and U.S. 35 interchanges. The existing partial cloverleaf interchanges are being replaced with diamond interchanges with roundabouts and the existing loop ramps are being removed. Reconstructed interchanges are expected to open to traffic in 2027.

Traffic News to Use
New Paris Pike is restricted to a single lane at I-70 through March. A temporary signal was installed this month to maintain northbound and southbound traffic.

The Washington Road overpass bridge will remain closed through this summer. Crews are rehabilitating the bridge and adding a new deck to extend its life.
I-70 is open to traffic during construction, with two lanes open in each direction during peak travel times. Drivers can expect short-term ramp closures at the U.S. 27 and U.S. 35 interchanges this spring.
