Shoulder strengthening continues along I-70 corridor

Shoulder strengthening work is continuing on I-70, preparing for the start of construction from west of State Road 1 to west of Centerville.

Here’s what drivers can expect:

Friday, Aug. 22 and Saturday, Aug. 23

  • Overnight lane closure on westbound I-70 from Centerville Road to Washington Road (10 p.m. Friday to 10 a.m. Saturday)

Sunday, Aug. 24 – Thursday, Aug. 28

  • Overnight lane closure on westbound I-70 from Washington Road to Brick Church Road

Work is scheduled between 10 p.m. Sunday and 7 a.m. Monday. Remaining operations are scheduled between 10 p.m. and 7 a.m. each night.

Crews are milling the existing shoulder and adding new asphalt to strengthen the shoulder to accommodate traffic during construction. Traffic will utilize part of the outside shoulder to maintain two lanes of traffic for most of construction and give crews the room needed to safely work. Pavement is being rehabilitated along this portion of I-70 and improvements are being made to 13 bridges.

All work is weather-dependent, and schedules are subject to change.

Construction Speed Limit

The construction zone speed limit remains active on I-70. A reduced speed of 55 mph is in place for the duration of Revive I-70 work. It is important for drivers to slow down and avoid distractions in work zones.
