Shoulder strengthening to resume along I-70 corridor

Work extends from west of S.R. 1 to west of Centerville

Shoulder strengthening work is resuming on I-70, preparing for the start of construction from west of State Road 1 to west of Centerville.

Here’s what drivers can expect:

Tuesday, Aug. 19 – Saturday, Aug. 23

  • Overnight lane closure on westbound I-70 from Centerville Road to Washington Road

Tuesday through Thursday work is scheduled between 10 p.m. and 7 a.m. each night, and Friday work is scheduled between 10 p.m. and 10 a.m.

Crews will mill the existing shoulder and add new asphalt to strengthen the shoulder to accommodate traffic during construction. Traffic will utilize part of the outside shoulder to maintain two lanes of traffic for most of construction and give crews the room needed to safely work. Pavement is being rehabilitated along this portion of I-70 and improvements are being made to 13 bridges.

All work is weather-dependent, and schedules are subject to change.

Construction Speed Limit
The construction zone speed limit remains active on I-70. A reduced speed of 55 mph is in place for the duration of Revive I-70 work. It is important for drivers to slow down and avoid distractions in work zones.
