Shoulder strengthening to resume on I-70

Pavement patching, shoulder strengthening, and other activities are planned on the Revive I-70 corridor in Wayne County this week.

Here’s what to expect:

Demolition Work

  • Overnight Monday, April 21, through Friday, April 25 (beginning on or after 4/21)
  • Union Pike at the I-70 overpass, nightly closures from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m.
    • A signed detour will be in place.

Pavement Patching

  • Overnight Monday, April 21
    • Lane restriction on westbound I-70 from U.S. 40 to S.R. 227
  • Overnight Tuesday, April 22
    • Lane restriction on westbound I-70 from S.R. 227 to U.S. 27

Short-term overnight lane and ramp closures will change locations as patching work progresses. Patching operations will improve current pavement conditions until replacement occurs from west of U.S. 35 to the Ohio state line as part of the Revive I-70 project.

Shoulder Strengthening

  • Overnight Wednesday, April 23, through Friday, April 25
    • Lane restriction on eastbound I-70 from U.S. 27 to S.R. 227
    • Ramp from U.S. 27 to eastbound I-70 closed

Crews will strengthen the existing shoulder with new asphalt to accommodate traffic during construction. Traffic will utilize part of the outside shoulder to maintain two lanes of traffic for most of construction and give crews the room needed to build new lanes of I-70. The additional travel lanes will be built using the existing inside shoulder.

Overnight, weekday closures are scheduled from 8 p.m. to 7 a.m., weather permitting, unless noted otherwise.

Delays Anticipated
Necessary traffic restrictions will cause delays on I-70. Drivers should plan ahead and use alternate routes, when possible.

Construction Speed Limit Now Active
The construction zone speed limit is now active on I-70. A reduced speed of 55 mph is in place for the duration of Revive I-70 work. It is important for drivers to slow down and avoid distractions in work zones.
