Cardinal Greenway Trail closed until late this year
Construction will begin in mid-July to improve the I-70 and U.S. 40 interchange near Richmond. The ramps from eastbound and westbound I-70 to westbound U.S. 40 are expected to close the week of July 14 and reopen in mid-September. During the closure, crews will remove existing pavement and begin roundabout construction at the interchange.
The official detour is S.R. 227 to U.S. 27 to westbound U.S. 40.

Significant changes to the U.S. 40 interchange are expected to improve safety and mobility. The diamond interchange will be replaced with a single-lane roundabout with removal of the current loop ramps. Weaving movements from entrance and exit ramps will be eliminated. The reconstructed interchange will open by late 2027.
