Temporary Lane Closures to Begin on Section of U.S. 35

U.S. 27 ramps to temporarily close next week

Long-term temporary lane closures are beginning on a one-mile section of U.S. 35. Lane restrictions from Industries Road to Salisbury Road are scheduled to begin overnight Friday, April 17.

On or after Wednesday, April 22, U.S. 35 is expected to be reduced to a single lane in each direction from Industries Road to Salisbury Road. The restrictions are needed for temporary widening work and to strengthen pavement in the area. This will allow crews to later shift traffic to accommodate construction and improvements at U.S. 35. Here’s what drivers should expect:

Friday, April 17 – Wednesday, April 22 (9 p.m. Friday through 3 p.m. Wednesday)

  • Northbound U.S. 35 reduced to a single lane from Industries Road to Salisbury Road

Wednesday, April 22 –Fall 2026 (3 p.m. Wednesday – Fall 2026)

  • U.S. 35 reduced to a single lane in both directions from Industries Road to Salisbury Road

Other Restrictions

Other restrictions are planned for the rest of this week and next week. Work includes preparing for the traffic shift on a section of eastbound I-70 by late this month.

  • Eastbound I-70 reduced to one lane from Reservoir Road to near the East Fork Whitewater River bridge

U.S. 27 Ramp Closures

The ramps to and from U.S. 27 and eastbound I-70 are scheduled to close on or after Thursday, April 23.

The exit ramp from eastbound I-70 to U.S. 27 is expected to reopen in mid-June. The entrance ramp from U.S. 27 to eastbound I-70 is expected to reopen in mid-August.

The official detour follows eastbound I-70 to S.R. 227 (Exit 153) and westbound I-70 to Centerville Road (Exit 145).

Crews are rehabilitating the ramps. Concrete patching is planned for the ramps and U.S. 27, and crews will be doing extensive work to connect the ramps to I-70, including work on the acceleration and deceleration lanes.

Traffic Shift Postponed

Traffic on eastbound I-70 is moving to new roadway as crews begin work on a new phase of the project. The shift extends from west of U.S. 35 to S.R. 227. Both lanes of eastbound I-70 are moving to the new lanes of I-70 that have been constructed in the median. The lanes will be divided by a barrier wall.

Both lanes of eastbound I-70 are expected to shift to new roadway by Monday, April 27. There will be closures and restrictions the weekend of April 24 (as outlined above) to prepare to move traffic. Shifting traffic will allow crews to begin pavement replacement work and other improvements on the existing lanes of eastbound I-70.

Construction Speed Limit

The construction zone speed limit remains active on I-70. A reduced speed of 55 mph is in place for the duration of Revive I-70 work. It is important for drivers to slow down and avoid distractions in work zones.
