Traffic shift and S.R. 1 ramps to reopen Sunday morning
Two significant traffic updates are expected this weekend. Traffic will be shifting to new roadway on a portion of eastbound I-70, and the State Road 1 ramps are expected to reopen.
Traffic Shift
The right lane of eastbound I-70 is moving to new pavement as crews begin work on a new phase of the project. The shift extends for nearly nine miles, from west of State Road (S.R.) 1 to west of Centerville Road.
Shifting traffic will allow crews to complete the pavement restoration work on the inside lane. The shift is expected to be in place by 10 a.m. on Sunday, Aug. 9. Eastbound I-70 traffic is expected to return to normal configuration by the end of the year.
S.R. 1 Ramps Reopening
The S.R. 1 ramps to and from eastbound I-70 are also expected to reopen on or after 10 a.m. on Sunday, Aug. 9. The closures started in late May. Crews rehabilitated and reconstructed the ramps during the temporary closure.
Overnight Restrictions This Week and Next Week
Overnight restrictions are needed Saturday to prepare for the traffic shift. Overnight ramp closures and lane restrictions are scheduled for Monday to deliver and set bridge beams. The following impacts are expected:
Saturday, Aug. 8 (10 p.m. Saturday – 10 a.m. Sunday)
- Eastbound I-70 reduced to one lane from Brick Church Road to Centerville Road
Monday, Aug. 10
- U.S. 35 ramps to and from eastbound I-70 closed (to deliver and set beams)
- Ramp from eastbound I-70 to U.S. 27 (to deliver and set beams)
- Eastbound I-70 reduced to one lane from Round Barn Road to S.R. 227
- Eastbound I-70 reduced to one lane from Brick Church Road to Centerville Road
Thursday, Aug. 13
- Westbound I-70 reduced to one lane near Washington Road
Friday, Aug. 14 (10 p.m. Friday – 10 a.m. Saturday)
- Westbound I-70 reduced to one lane near Washington Road
All closures are 8 p.m. to 7 a.m. daily unless otherwise noted.
Construction Speed Limit
The construction zone speed limit remains active on I-70. A reduced speed of 55 mph is in place for the duration of Revive I-70 work. It is important for drivers to slow down and avoid distractions in work zones.
