Williamsburg Pike ramp to reopen; traffic to shift at U.S. 40
As progress continues on the I-70 corridor, drivers can expect a few traffic changes this week. The Williamsburg Pike ramp is expected to reopen as additional ramps are expected to close at U.S. 35 and Williamsburg Pike. Traffic will shift at U.S. 35 and drivers will begin using a new roundabout in a temporary configuration. A traffic shift is also expected at U.S. 40.
Williamsburg Pike Ramp Reopening
The westbound I-70 ramp at the Williamsburg Pike interchange is scheduled to reopen on or after Wednesday, Aug. 26. During the closure, the flyover ramp from Williamsburg Pike to westbound I-70 was demolished, and crews continued building the roundabouts at the improved U.S. 35 interchange.
Drivers will also notice a shift in traffic at the Williamsburg Pike interchange. Southbound traffic at the U.S. 35 interchange will use a portion of the new roundabout in temporary configuration. Click here for information on navigating roundabouts.
Temporary Ramp Closures at U.S. 35
Ramps to and from eastbound I-70 at the U.S. 35 interchange are expected to close on or after Wednesday, Aug. 26. They are expected to reopen by late October. This includes the exit ramp from eastbound I-70 to southbound Williamsburg Pike, the exit ramp from eastbound I-70 to northbound U.S. 35, and the entrance ramp from northbound Williamsburg Pike to eastbound I-70.
During the closures, crews will be building the tie-in ramps for the final roundabout configuration at the improved U.S. 35 interchange. Roundabouts have been proven to improve safety and traffic flow. Removing the loop ramps will eliminate the weaving movements from entrance and exit ramps.
Traffic Shift at U.S. 40
Drivers will notice a shift in traffic near the U.S 40 interchange. Beginning on or after Wednesday, Aug. 26, eastbound traffic will shift to the side of the road that typically carries westbound traffic. This configuration is expected to be in place through the end of the year as crews work on interchange improvements.

Monday, August 24
- Rolling lane closures on westbound I-70 from Brick Church Road to Centerville Road
Wednesday, August 26
- Eastbound I-70 reduced to one lane from Brick Church Road to Centerville Road
Thursday, August 27
- Eastbound I-70 reduced to one lane from S.R. 227 to Smyrna Road
All closures are 8 p.m. to 7 a.m. daily unless otherwise noted.
Construction Speed Limit
The construction zone speed limit remains active on I-70. A reduced speed of 55 mph is in place for the duration of Revive I-70 work. It is important for drivers to slow down and avoid distractions in work zones.
