Overnight restrictions needed for patching and lighting work
The temporary ramp closures in place at U.S. 40 are scheduled to end by the end of this week, weather permitting. The ramps from eastbound and westbound U.S. 40 to eastbound I-70 are expected to reopen by Friday, Dec. 19. The ramp from eastbound I-70 to eastbound U.S. 40 will not be reopening. That movement is incorporated into the new traffic pattern at the interchange under construction.
Traffic Shift
Drivers on eastbound I-70 will notice a new traffic configuration near Eaton Pike. Eastbound traffic has been utilizing the westbound roadway to accommodate construction and will be moving back to its original position. Both directions of traffic will still use the westbound roadway at the U.S. 40 overpass. The shift is expected to happen during the day on Thursday, Dec. 18.
The traffic shift will allow crews the room they need to safely work and continue improvements in the area.
Daytime Restriction
Daytime lane restrictions will accommodate bridge work. Drivers can expect the following restriction:
Wednesday, Dec. 17 (7 a.m. to 3 p.m.)
- Eastbound I-70 reduced to a single lane near Brick Church Road
Overnight Restrictions
Overnight ramp closures and lane restrictions will accommodate patching throughout the corridor and lighting work near U.S. 40. Drivers can expect the following restrictions:
Tuesday, Dec. 16 – Thursday, Dec. 18 (8 p.m. to 7 a.m. nightly)
- Eastbound I-70 reduced to a single lane near S.R. 227
- Eastbound I-70 reduced to a single lane from U.S. 40 to the Ohio state line
Wednesday, Dec. 17 (8 p.m. to 7 a.m.)
- Ramps from eastbound and westbound I-70 to U.S. 40 closed
- Ramps from eastbound I-70 to northbound and southbound U.S. 35 closed
- Ramp from U.S. 35 to eastbound I-70 closed
- Eastbound I-70 reduced to a single lane from west of the U.S. 35 interchange to U.S. 27
- Westbound I-70 reduced to a single lane from Smyrna Road to S.R. 227
Thursday, Dec. 18 (8 p.m. to 7 a.m.)
- Ramp from eastbound U.S. 27 to eastbound I-70 closed
- Eastbound I-70 reduced to a single lane from Union Pike to U.S. 27
Friday, Dec. 19 (10 p.m. Friday to 10 a.m. Saturday)
- Westbound I-70 reduced to a single lane from U.S. 35 to the Ohio state line
Saturday, Dec. 20 (10 a.m. Saturday to 10 a.m. Sunday)
- Westbound I-70 reduced to a single lane from S.R. 227 to U.S. 27
All work is weather-dependent, and schedules are subject to change.
Temporary Closure at Washington Road to Begin in January
The Washington Road overpass bridge is expected to close on or after Monday, Jan. 5. Washington Road will be closed from Kepler Road to Moyer Road. The closure is expected to last through summer 2026. A signed detour will be in place using Moyer, Jacksonburg and Kepler roads.
Construction Speed Limit
The construction zone speed limit remains active on I-70. A reduced speed of 55 mph is in place for the duration of Revive I-70 work. It is important for drivers to slow down and avoid distractions in work zones.
