Ramp to westbound U.S. 40 to reopen later this week

Weekend lane restrictions planned in October

A temporary ramp closure is scheduled to end this week. The ramp from westbound I-70 to westbound U.S. 40 is expected to reopen the morning of Saturday, Sept. 27. It’s been closed since late July to begin reconstructing the U.S. 40 interchange. Some restrictions will be needed overnight on Friday to prepare for the ramp reopening.

Friday, Sept. 26

  • Ramp from eastbound I-70 to westbound U.S. 40 closed
  • One lane closed on eastbound I-70 at the U.S. 40 interchange

The closures are scheduled from 9 p.m. on Friday to 10 a.m. on Saturday.

The partial cloverleaf at the U.S. 40 interchange is being replaced with a diamond interchange with single-lane roundabouts. The existing loop ramps are being removed. When the ramp reopens to traffic this week, drivers will be on new pavement and using half of the future roundabouts under construction. The reconstructed interchange is expected to open to traffic in late 2026.

Additional Overnight Closures
As work progresses on Revive I-70, drivers can expect the following overnight restrictions this week:

Monday, Sept. 22 and Tuesday, Sept. 23

  • Lane closure on eastbound I-70 from Greens Fork Creek to Plum Creek (8 p.m. to 7 a.m.)

Weekend Lane Restrictions in October
Weekend lane restrictions are scheduled in October from west of S.R. 1 to west of Centerville. Crews will widen eastbound I-70 to prepare for the start of construction early next year. Long back-ups and significant delays are expected during the weekend work. Drivers are strongly encouraged to plan ahead and use alternate routes when possible.

During the weekend closures, eastbound I-70 will be reduced to a single lane in approximately 2-3 mile sections. The closures are scheduled for 10 p.m. on Friday through 7 a.m. on Monday. The work is expected to begin on Friday, Oct. 3 and continue for at least four weekends.

All work is weather-dependent, and schedules are subject to change.

Construction Speed Limit
The construction zone speed limit remains active on I-70. A reduced speed of 55 mph is in place for the duration of Revive I-70 work. It is important for drivers to slow down and avoid distractions in work zones.
