Long delays are expected; alternate routes encouraged
Weekend lane restrictions are scheduled in October to widen eastbound I-70 from west of State Road 1 to west of Centerville to prepare for the start of construction early next year. Significant back-ups and delays are expected. Drivers are strongly encouraged to plan ahead and use alternate routes when possible.
Eastbound I-70 will be reduced to a single lane from Mineral Springs Road to Nolands Fork Creek from 10 p.m. Friday, Oct. 3 through 7 a.m. Monday, Oct. 6. This is the first of at least four weekends needed to complete the work. Crews will work east to west and reduce eastbound I-70 to a single lane in approximately two to three mile sections.
Overnight Closures This Week
As work progresses on Revive I-70, drivers can also expect the following overnight restrictions this week:
Monday, Sept. 29 – Thursday, Oct. 2 (8 p.m. to 7 a.m.)
- Nightly lane closure on westbound I-70 from Nolands Fork Creek to Plum Creek
All work is weather-dependent, and schedules are subject to change.
Ramp Reopens
The ramp from westbound I-70 to westbound U.S. 40 is open to traffic. It opened over the weekend after closing in late July to begin reconstructing the U.S. 40 interchange. Drivers have moved to new pavement. Additional temporary ramp closures are expected later this year as construction continues.
The partial cloverleaf at the U.S. 40 interchange is being replaced with a diamond interchange with single-lane roundabouts. The existing loop ramps are being removed. Similar improvements are being made at the U.S. 35 interchange. Both interchanges are expected to be open in final configuration in 2027.
Construction Speed Limit
The construction zone speed limit remains active on I-70. A reduced speed of 55 mph is in place for the duration of Revive I-70 work. It is important for drivers to slow down and avoid distractions in work zones.
