Work continues on I-70; minor traffic shifts planned

Revive I-70 construction is continuing, and drivers can expect the following traffic impacts this week:

Tuesday, July 8 and Wednesday, July 9

  • Overnight lane closure on westbound I-70 from U.S. 27 to Union Pike
  • Overnight lane closure on eastbound I-70 from Union Pike to U.S. 27

Wednesday, July 9 and Thursday, July 10

  • Overnight lane closure on eastbound I-70 from S.R. 121 to Ohio state line

Friday, July 11

  • Overnight lane closure on westbound I-70 from Ohio state line to S.R. 227
  • Overnight closures are scheduled between 8 p.m. and 7 a.m. each night, and work is weather- dependent.

Traffic Shifts
Drivers will notice minor traffic shifts this week. Traffic will move closer to the outside shoulder on eastbound I-70 from S.R. 121 to the Ohio state line and on westbound I-70 from the Ohio state line to S.R. 227. Traffic will also shift in turn lanes along eastbound and westbound U.S. 40 at the interchange with I-70.

Shifting traffic will accommodate construction and give crews more room to work and build the new, inside lanes of I-70 while maintaining two lanes of traffic in each direction. Lane and shoulder widths will be reduced within the work zone.

Temporary U.S. 40 Ramp Closures
The temporary ramp closures from eastbound and westbound I-70 to westbound U.S. 40 are expected to begin the week of July 14. The ramps are expected to reopen in mid-September. During the closure, crews will remove existing pavement and begin construction at the interchange.

Construction Speed Limit Active
The construction zone speed limit remains active on I-70. A reduced speed of 55 mph is in place for the duration of Revive I-70 work. It is important for drivers to slow down and avoid distractions in work zones.
